Diane Van Wyngarden is Iowa State University’s tourism economic development specialist. She combines her doctorate in Adult Learning and Organizational Leadership with her passion for travel. Diane has been creating and leading domestic and international educational travel courses since 2002. Diane specializes in themed learning itineraries, and provides unique experiences not available to travelers on their own or with any other group. She scouts out the best speakers, the most interesting stops, great dining and comfy hotels. She takes care of all the gritty details so you can focus on what you most want to do during the program, such as learning about new things, experiencing new cultures, meeting new friends, and having fun.
Our Group Study Leaders
Our leaders travel with you and assist you throughout your entire program. They also serve as your Lead Instructor for your program. They are all experienced teachers, with specialties in history, local culture or adult learning. They are local experts who share stories about the places you visit. You will experience a region through the personal insights of someone who knows it well, and is eager to share it with you.
The not-for-profit leader in educational travel since 1975, Road Scholar offers adult educational travel courses in all 50 states and 150 countries. We provide in-depth learning with leading experts. And we go where others can’t. Relationships through our work at Iowa State University allow us to create experiences that show you the world in a way that just can’t be done on your own or on a “tour”. We go inside private boats, businesses, homes and domes to gain first-hand knowledge of local cultures. Formerly known as Elderhostel, Road Scholar processes your program registration at their Boston headquarters. Iowa State University creates and leads your program. It’s a partnership which participants say provides the best learning programs they’ve experienced.
